More Winter Fun!

We have enjoyed decorating our classroom with snowmen and penguins!

Here are a few pictures of Sneezy the Snowman as he melted away and taught us about the states of matter-solid, liquid, gas!

We love to scroll!!!  Each child has begun a scroll.  For every 100 numbers that they write they will add a new sheet!  They are all anxious to see how far they can write!

Here is a peek at some of our latest math centers!

Ordering numbers from least to greatest!

Place value practice!

We are participating in a Valentine Exchange that involves many different states and even a few other countries!  We will be sending ours (sample below) out this week.  We can't wait to see all of the ones that will come our way!  In the end, each child will get to take one home!

Sneezy the Snowman!

Meet Sneezy the snowman.  Actually our "ice" man!  Sneezy was in our classroom to greet us this morning on our first day back!

As you can see, Sneezy has started to melt!  We are using him to learn about solids, liquids and gas!

We can't wait to see what he looks like tomorrow morning!

Math Centers and Word Work

We are getting better and better with our math centers!  Here are some of the activities that we have been up to this month!

Domino Addition

Using our Saxon Math program, we used dice to add and graph our answers.

For this game, two players take turns rolling and adding the dice.  They then remove the cube that is covering their answer.  The first one to remove all of their cubes wins!

This time we rolled one dot cube and doubled the number.  We then covered the answer.  The first to cover their card is the winner.

At the top of the picture you can see a bracelet.  We used the beads to list the different number sentences that would equal 3, 4 and then 5.

We LOVE our interactive math notebooks!  Here we had to write the missing numbers on these number lines.

We also LOVE to write around the room!  Here we had to figure out the missing number and record our answers.

Using the apple numbers we identified the number before and after.  This helped our understanding of the our one more and one less math facts.

Another math notebook entry:  Here we practiced the commutative property (flip flop strategy).

We have been moving right along with our phonics skills!  We have been working hard on the bossy R!  Below we read, wrote and then stamped the words.

Then, we had another write around the room activity.

Sight word sticks are a new favorite in our classroom.  Ask your child about it!

We made s'mores and used the opportunity to learn about adjectives!

COSI, Candy 'Science and More!

Last week, COSI came to visit!  We had a wonderful time conducting our own chemistry experiments!

Back in the classroom, we conducted our own Candy Science Experiments!  What happens to gummy bears when they soak in water all night?

They grow!!

How about M&M's?  In just a few minutes, we were able to observe the color changes...AND LOOK!  The M slipped off and floated to the top!

Can you see the S from our Skittles?

During Math centers we have been hard at work adding!

We have also been working with tally marks and graphing too!

We are now ready to begin writing with a beginning, middle and end in mind!  We have been practicing with sequencing puzzles.

Last week we learned all about the sounds of th, sh and ch!  These are our Thinking Thumbs!
